Mandello del Lario is a small town on Lake Como in Lombardy, Italy and has ca.10.600 inhabitants (2012). The village lies at the foot of the Grigna Massif.
The town was founded by the Romans and was the seat of government of the Lombardians.
Although the city is today an active industrial and craft center it has been able to preserve its historic character. Thanks to its location the resort of Mandello del Lario has a very special climate. The summer heat is cooled by three air streams. They are called Breva, Tivello and Montivo and come from the north, south and eastern Grigna Massif.
Mandello del Lario is the home of Moto Guzzi, which since 2004 is part of the Piaggio Group. In 1950 the wind tunnel was built on the factory site and can still be visited.
