Santa Maria with its authenticity and proximity to the main attractions of Lake Como forms part of San Siro and is located about 6 km north of Menaggio and 13 km south of Gravedona.

A beautiful swimming beache (pebble) is located near the church.Santa Maria has a promenade where you can stroll along the lake front as far as Rezzonico and Acquaseria.

Santa Maria also has a beautifully preserved church the Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 15th century, at also has some good restaurants and a grocery store. To do a larger shop go to Dongo or Menaggio which are both nearby (6-8 km).

Santa Maria is also an ideal starting point for simple and demanding hikes, mountain biking, for example to the summit of Monte Grona (1756 meters,with a magnificent panorama), Monte Bregagno (2107 m), along the "Via dei Monti Lariani", through forests and pastures as high as 700-1200 m, with panoramic views of the alpine scenery of Lake Como.
