Holiday destinations: Lombardy

The Lombardy

with its capital Milan is the richest and most populous region of the 20 regions of Italy and one of the richest regions in Europe.

Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano
The Northern Italian lakes Lago Maggiore, Lago di Lugano, Lake Como / Lago di Como, Lake Iseo and the Lago di Garda (the largest lake in Italy) are the homes of Unesco World Heritage Sites (Italy has the most in the world) and among the Lombardian treasures are:
• the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie with the fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci in Milan
• the petroglyphs (stone carvings) in Valcamonica
• The Sacri Monti (Sacred Mountains) in Piedmont and Lombardy
• the train of the Bernina Railway between St.Moritz and Tirano (Valtellina)
• Monte San Giorgio on Lake Lugano

Attractions in Lombardy:
The monastery complex in Certosa di Pavia, Lake Como with Bellagio and Villa Balbaniello in Lenno, the Royal Villa (Villa Reale) in Monza, Lake Maggiore with Isola Bella Borromeo Palace, the Cathedrals in Como and Mantua.

Attractions in Milan:
The Duomo with Piazza Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Church and Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie with the fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci, La Scala - one of the most important and renowned opera houses in the world, the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, the Basilica Sant'Eustorgio, the Portinari Chapel and Museum "Pinacoteca di Brera".

Location and Climate:
The Lombardy Region is located in the north of Italy and borders the Swiss cantons of Ticino and Grisons in the north, to the Italian regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto to the east, Emilia-Romana in the south and to the Piedmont in the West.

In the north of Lombardy the landscape is dominated by the Alps and in the south the vast landscape of the Po Valley. The Po forms - as Italy's longest river (652 km) - the southern boundary of Lombardy.

Thanks to its mild Mediterranean climate, subtropical plants such as lemons and oranges, cypresses and olive trees, almond trees, cork oaks, camellias, magnolias, azaleas, acacia or palm trees grow very well here.

Culinary Journey:
The typical cuisine of Lombardy include for example: Risotto, Polenta, Pizzoccheri, Osso Buco, Cassoeula, Tortelli di Zucca, Panettone.
Local cheeses are: Quartirolo Lombardo, Robiola, Crescenza, Taleggio, Gorgonzola, Bitto cheese and Grana Padano. Wine: Nebbiolo red, Bella Vista, Santi, Nino Negri, Bonarda, Inferno, Grumello, Sassella.

You are special and we want to help to ensure your holiday in The Lombardy is an unforgettable experience!
